SETTING UP PINE Depending on who set up your account and how well they were paying attention, you may need to do some fiddling with PINE before it can be used to send and receive mail. The following settings are recommended if you are using your @retro-net.org email address: First launch PINE from the MCP main menu ("[2] MAIL & NEWS"). At the main menu, select "S" for Setup and then "C" for config... scroll down to "smtp-server" and enter the following: "smtp.retro-net.org:587/user=${USER}@retro-net.org" (without the quotes) and hit [RETURN]. Note: You may be asked for your password several times when sending mail -- that's just the way it is. Live with it! Next, toddle down to "inbox-path"... type in: "pop.retro-net.org/pop3/user=your_user_name@retro-net.org" (again, without the quotes) and smack [RETURN]. When prompted for a folder name hit [RETURN] again to accept the default. That *should* be all you need to set up to send and recive mail. PASSWORDS By default your email password is the same as your login password. If you wish to change it you'll have to do so through the webmail interface (accessible from the RetroNET homepage). You cannot change the password from within PINE, nor does it automatically change if you update your login password. ADDITIONAL SETTINGS Here are a few items I like to change from the default pine set-up... I find it a little easier to get around, but your mileage may vary. These are all available in the Config menu. [ Folder Preferences ] [X] combined-subdirectory-display [X] combined-folder-display ... [X] expanded-view-of-folders ... [X] single-column-folder-list ...
